Many athletes have pre-game and in-game routines but aren't really sure how to handle post game thoughts. Depending on the results (which are out of control), athletes might be in a great mood or may ruminate on mistakes for hours/ even days. This often leads to leads to confrontations with parents and detrimental behavior. Here are some tips:

  1. Journal: I suggest grabbing a notebook for this (but you can use your phone). Answer the following three questions:

    1. What did I do well?

    2. What can I do better?

    3. What is the plan to do better?

    * This should take 5 minutes. Once you finish, close the book. That performance is over. Now the person takes over because we are more than our performance.

Added Bonus: Now you have a history of performance. You can go back and see how you handled previous "off game" or for a confidence boost.
